Lost and Found Pets
Lost a Pet?
If you’ve lost a pet immediately report it to your local Animal Control facility. (In McHenry County, it is McHenry County Animal Control 815-459-6222; file a report and if possible email a picture to them at the email address they provide you.)
Check www.Petharbor.com daily to see if your local shelter has found your animal. Many shelters, including MCAC, upload pictures of the pets their animal control officers have picked up each day.
(Don’t depend on them calling you, as they may not think the animal they found fits your description, or your pet may have been found far from where it was lost and they don’t make the connection. Animal Control facilities are very busy places and you don’t want your pet to get overlooked.)
Also check MCAC’s website to review their Lost Pets Report each week: McHenry County Animal Control website (look for Lost Pets in the link on the left side of the page)
Lost Dogs Illinois is a group of animal lovers helping reunite lost dogs with their families. Find them out on Facebook, and be sure to read their Resource Page with links to many helpful websites: Lost Dogs Illinois - Resources to help you search for your lost dog (Some of these resources also have information on finding lost cats.)
Helpmefindmypet.com is another great source to post a missing pet!

Be sure to file a report with your local Animal Control facility – hopefully the lost animal’s owner has already reported the animal as being lost. They’ll put you in touch with the family, and it will be a relatively stress-free process for your animal to be reunited with his family!
